Gaojian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Central Hunan. The Gaojian Fm was named by the Hunan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1980 and formally published in Regional Geology of Hunan Province in 1985. The typical section is located in Gaojian, Shuangfeng County, Hunan Province. Lower formation in the Banxi Gr at this location.
Synonym: (高涧组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Gaojian Formation was subdivided into three members. Lower member is composed of dark grayish green fine-grained sandstone, siltstone intercalated or interbedded with slate. Middle member is gray to grayish green slate, grayish purple slate and silty slate intercalated with thin-bedded limestone and dolomite. Upper member consists of gray, dark gray or grayish green sericite slate, tuffaceous slate, tuff and minor metamorphic sandstone, tuffaceous sandstone, generally occurrence of a layer of dark gray carbonaceous slate intercalated with grayish green slate. The total thickness is about 2413 m.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The lower part rests unconformably on the underlying Lengjiaxi Gr (Dayaogu Fm?)
Upper contact
Its top is overlain disconformably or conformable by the Chang'an Fm (early Nanhuan) in type area; but conformably overlain by the Mobin Fm in western Hunan.
Regional extent
Western to Central Hunan Province.
